I recently entered a competition to win a couple of tickets for GWR’s Night Riviera: a sleeper train. Unsurprisingly I didn’t win. But I was proud of my entry, so I thought I’d post it here!
The task was to complete the sentence “My ideal romantic journey would be…”. I took certain liberties with the idea of a sentence:
My ideal romantic journey would be
One which takes in land and sea
From Cornish coast to city spire,
From urban sprawl to country briar,
With my beloved by my side –
Two kindred spirits and a Bradshaw’s Guide –
We’d undertake an epic quest,
Catching trains to east and west;
Our odyssey would take in stations,
New sights greeted with elation,
(And naturally for two trainspotters
Train numbers noted in our jotters);
Adventurers long hours do keep,
So we’d be sure to need our sleep;
For this there’d be no finer bearer
Than Great Western Railway’s Riviera.

… Fortunately we’ve been on the Night Riviera once before, so I am not as heartbroken as I could be!
