Harvests

When we moved into our house, we inherited an apple tree. It’s still quite young, but each autumn it’s overladen with fruit. The apples are lovely to eat – crunchy and sweet.

True to form, this year we were once again inundated with apples. I decided to put some of them to an ulterior use, and incorporated them in my Harvest flower display at church:

(I was going for a sort of autumn picnic scene – can you tell?)

Our church is very cold – so even after the apples had been on display for a while they were still in good condition. So I took them home again, fired up the trusty Kenwood Chef and put the glut to another use: juice.

I was gratified to find that it was delicious! I had been a little apprehensive, as a couple of years ago we tried to make cider and it was disappointingly bland. The juice was vastly superior.

At our next church service, we had a bring & share meal. I brought along the juice. So the apples fulfilled two church-related functions. Holy apples!
